Engineers from the BMW developed a new cylinder head for hydrogen operation based on a production diesel engine. BMW designed high pressure injectors for direct injection of hydrogen into the combustion chamber with pressures of up to 300 bar, nearly 4500 psi. With the diesel base, however a much better efficiency, with the new technology reached 42 percent and this is on the level of conventional self-ignition. The series using the new technology are technical side, according to Development Director Falk Gerbig no insurmountable obstacles contrary.

The project H2BVplus, an H2-ignition combustion process as a possible cars propulsion of the future will be further investigated. With regard to performance and efficiency can be distinguished from conventional diesel interesting aspects derived. The H2-ignition concept is to increase the efficiency and specific performance is expected.

Still holds the BMW hydrogen combustion because of the relatively low technology and low cost space, particularly for a good alternative to hydrogen fuel cells

The utilities are also entitled to their green technology! Roush Technologies Ltd (car preparer specializing in commercial vehicles) and ITM Power plc (dedicated to hydrogen technology) work together on a project to circulate on roads in the UK vehicles powered by gasoline or with hydrogen.

They are based on the utility Ford Transit, with a 4-cylinder petrol engine 2.3 liters. The latter has undergone transformations to run on hydrogen: it has a compressor and 3 tanks of 4.5 kg of hydrogen (350 bars) placed under the chassis. It enjoys autonomy up to 217 km.

At their marketing, these green vehicles will be accompanied by a small electrolyzer (requiring a water supply and electricity) and transmits the compressed hydrogen tank for recharging. The electric car is no longer the only benefit from this type of fueling system! The initial target customers? Businesses and environmental organizations who wish to show their commitment in the fight against auto pollution.

Roush Technologies is responsible for changes in utilities and development of new units for the use of hydrogen fuel. ITM Power electrolyzers provides to enable motorists to generate their own green fuel. This partnership offers a comprehensive set of technology to customers.

The Mazda RX-8 Hydrogen RE, with a rotary engine operating through with gasoline or of the hydrogen, now circulating on the roads in Norway. The manufacturer Mazda and joins the project “Hydrogen Road of Norway (HyNor) to implement a transportation infrastructure based on hydrogen technologies. The objective is that this vehicle is validated on the road in Europe after having evolved in Japan.

Following this validation, the project HyNor will host 30 other copies of the leases will be concluded. Mazda will also study the data collected in the development of its zero-emission vehicles. Hydrogen is spawning a path not far from home: Good news!
