New Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell Gets Ready For Series Production

The new fuel cell vehicle offers everything that people expect from a Mercedes-Benz: High comfort and safety as well as no reduction in interior space and boot capacity. Customers will not have to sacrifice any driving pleasure either, because the electric motor has a peak performance of 100 kW/136 hp and a maximum torque of 290 Nm, which is available from the first rotation. It ensures that the B‑Class F-CELL, whose impressive dynamic handling properties are in some cases far better than those of a two-litre petrol car, gets off to an excellent start. Despite these qualities, the zero-emission fuel cell drive consumes the equivalent of only 3.3 litres of diesel fuel per 100 kilometres (NEDC). Thanks to its great range of about 400 kilometres and short refuelling times of around three minutes, the B‑Class F-CELL ensures local zero-emission mobility even for long stretches.

New Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell

It was just. Mercedes has announced several times that he would have a hydrogen car into production before the end of the decade. We wanted to believe, but we saw in 2010 will bring … And finally here is the car. It was afraid, but here it is, and it is real. It is a class B as we had already seen several prototypes on many shows. Except it is no longer a prototype. It is still far from mass production, Mercedes does not provide for a first time to produce 200 copies. But it is a milestone of crossing over the prototype made by unit.
The rate provided is 2 cars per day. It’s little, but it already requires a dedicated organization, and Mercedes has put in place. It is true that the task was considerably simpler than that manufactures the Honda Clarity: Class B is a model already in production. The car already exists with gasoline engines, diesel or natural gas. And this versatility has opened doors that was enough to open a slightly larger version of this CAP. The integration is perfect, and even surprising, since touring the owner, it is difficult to see that it is a hydrogen car.

Flying Fuel Cell: Antares DLR-H2

Take off with hydrogen: Driven solely by the energy of a fuel cell is an airplane for its maiden flight in Hamburg started. Researchers want to demonstrate that the technology for use in aviation is suitable.

The Antares DLR-H2 during its technical flight trial in June 2009 at Zweibrücken. The fuel cell is slung under the left wing and the hydrogen tank under the right wing – with a capacity of either 2 or 4.9 kilograms. The fuel cell system used to power the Antares delivers up to 25 kilowatts of electrical power, and when flying in a straight line, the aircraft only requires about ten kilowatts of power. In this situation, the fuel cell is operating at an efficiency level of approximately 52 percent.

Another new feature of the Antares is the way its fuel cell is connected to the main electric motor that powers the aircraft. The motor controller, developed jointly with Lange Aviation and with the College of Advanced Technology in Berne/Biel, is capable of taking in and controlling voltages from 188 to 400 V. Through the direct link between fuel cell and motor, efficiency is optimised while costs, reliability and maintenance costs are minimised.

The hissing white tank drops in aerodynamically favorable shape hangs under the wing of a glider. Antares DLR H2 is the Air Force, in a few minutes to the first official flight at the airport Hamburg-FuhlsbĂĽttel will take off. It is the world’s first public flight of a single fuel cell-powered aircraft – and therefore sends Hamburg’s First Mayor Ole von Beust personally some Greetings. He says “It almost like the first flight of Yuri Gagarin into space”.

The DLR’s scientists will continue to work closely with Airbus and Lufthansa Technik cooperate. The technology-yard, the Antares DLR-H2, at the Lufthansa base in Hamburg will be stationed, technically supervise. Riversimple, the return of hydrogen. Zero pollution in the city daily

Riversimple Urban Car

Hydrogen cars are just moved to a second place in recent months. The future belongs to electric batteries, and we’ll build it for thousands of recharging terminals in all cities! For people who are struggling to convince that we can overcome the weakness of the self-electric cars by the infrastructure, the solution of hydrogen would quickly resurface. The potential is greatest, it is immediately apparent in the urban prototype car, which was announced with a range of 340/380 km. You can drive with peace of mind.

This prototype Riversimple Urban Car is an electric car, with 4 small electric motors in the wheels, which draws its energy in supercapacitors. They are much faster and more durable than batteries. But the amount of stored energy is very low. Just what travel a few kilometers. The characteristics are also smiling these supercapacitors weigh only 21 kg. They may nevertheless provide a current of 15 kilowatts for 10 seconds, which is sufficient in a vehicle that urban n’accuse 350 kg on the scale.
In addition, coming to add energy to that provided by the supercapacitors in the accelerations, a fuel cell (PAC). The PAC is very small, so affordable, but it can not issue a power of 6 kW. It is nevertheless sufficient to maintain the small vehicle at its maximum speed of 80 km/ h. A more moderate speeds, the CAP works in slow motion, to charge the supercapacitors. And it is these supercapacitors that allow this Riversimple accelerate the CAP alone does not provide enough power for that.
This is called decoupling or separation of what makes the car accelerate, thus enabling it to maintain its cruising speed. Hybrid cars already use a little idea, it is brought to its climax. And the future. All the work on the subject, even Ferrari, and the small team behind Riversimple adhered to the idea because they are not beginners. The project leader behind the car had already designed the LIFECARE Morgan, he has several years of experience in the development of hybrid / electric and hydrogen.
It is now seeking partners. Where an original approach, Open Source. One knows the software of this type, but the design of a car has very little to do with editing software. Riversimple and continued to explain that they did not want a large group resume their solutions for a mass production without worrying about the future of its designers. Commercial use is not authorized. But if an innovative SMEs would like to work on the project to accelerate the emergence, in a return on investment mutualized, it is welcome here.
Kind of Smart elongated to reduce the frontal surface, the prototype meets all the best ideas for what is to make a car more environmentally friendly. Use of lightweight composite materials, motors in the wheels to ensure maximum recovery of energy lost to braking (although better than a Prius) … The Riversimple could be available in 2013, and it would not be sold, but proposed lease including all costs, including hydrogen refueling. The customer would have a package with a rent to pay mileage. That would be from ÂŁ 200 per month, or about 236 euros, and it seems for a competitive auto zero pollution.

Mercedes-Benz Citaro Fuel Cell Hybrid premiere in Vienna

Its world premiere celebrates today (June 9, 2009) in Vienna, the new city bus Mercedes-Benz Citaro Fuel Cell Hybrid at the UITP Congress, the World Congress of Verkehrsbetriebe. It is the first vehicle of the new generation fuel cell buses from Daimler. The Bus combines the advantages of a few months ago presented Citaro G Blue Tec hybrid diesel-electric propulsion with combined with those of the Citaro fuel cell buses, which travel with hydrogen and in fleet tests have already proven successful.

The Mercedes-Benz Citaro Fuel Cell Hybrid sets while driving no pollutants released and runs almost silently. This makes it ideal for use in inner cities and metropolises. Daimler is a small series of around 30 cars finished and European transport companies offer. The Citaro Fuel Cell Hybrid Bus will fall into a Europe-wide large-scale trial in several cities intensively tested.
